The story
The stone carries the same man's name twice. First the name of the trade: “Lucas DOLEGA photoreporter 1978-2011.” Then the full name on the register: “Loucas VON ZABIENSKI MEBROUK DOLEGA” — his mother's Germany and his father's France held in a single surname.
Born in 1978 to a German journalist mother and a French doctor father, he had grown up between several countries and spoke several languages. He discovered photography in 1998, while reading arts at university, thanks to his mother's old Voigtländer, did a placement in the photography department of the Centre Jean-Verdier, then entered the Centre de formation des journalistes in 1999 before becoming a freelance reporter.
On 14 January 2011, in Tunis, he was covering the Tunisian revolution. A tear-gas grenade fired by the security forces struck him on the head; he died three days later of his injuries, at thirty-two.
Few graves at Père-Lachaise carve in this way the two identities of one dead man: the name under which he signed his pictures, and the one he held from his family. He lies in Division 44.
