Philippe Bedos was the son of the actress Sophie Daumier, and Guy Bedos, who lived with her, legitimised him at nine by giving him his name. A rock singer and guitarist, he plied the same trade as she did, that of the stage, in a genre that had nothing of comedy or music hall. He died in 2011, seven years after his mother, and his name is carved beneath hers.
The story
Philippe Bedos was ten when Guy Bedos married his mother, the actress Sophie Daumier, in February 1965: the comedian legitimised him and gave him his name. It is that name that is cut into the stone.
The grave is first of all his mother's: “Sophie DAUMIER, 1936-2004.” The son's name is engraved beneath. He was a writer, a composer and a rock guitarist — the stage, like her, but a long way from the comedy and music hall in which she had made her name.
He died in December 2010, nearly seven years after her. The stone in Division 45 brings them together in order of arrival: she first, he beneath.
The grave
A stone with two names, the mother then the son: “Sophie DAUMIER, 1936-2004. Philippe BEDOS, 1954-2011.” The carved name is that of his adoptive father, Guy Bedos, who had legitimised him at nine. Both of Sophie Daumier's dates are wrong: the stone carves 1936-2004 when she was born on 24 November 1934 and died on 31 December 2003, on New Year's Eve.
