André Bézu, a comedian and singer born in Tourcoing in 1943, was one of the pillars of La Classe, the show Fabrice hosted on FR3 in the late 1980s. We owe him “Ali Baba”, then “Moi vouloir du couscous”, sung with Le Grand Saint Germain. He died in 2007. It was the shopkeepers of the rue Mouffetard who placed the plaque in his name, adorned with a flower and a microphone.
The story
On the day of André Bézu's burial, his friends struck up his own song at the graveside: “La Queuleuleu”.
Born at Tourcoing on 24 July 1943, André Bézu was an actor, a comedian and a comic singer. The wider public knew him through “la Classe”, Fabrice's programme on FR3 in the late 1980s, of which he was one of the mainstays. With his group “Le Grand Saint Germain” he had signed “Ali Baba” and “Moi vouloir du couscous”.
He also worked as a film press agent — Les Valseuses, La Course à l'échalote, Bons baisers de Hong Kong — before acting himself in La Course à l'échalote and Et vive la Liberté !
He died in Paris on 3 February 2007. The grave in Division 90 carries another family's name; it is a plaque signed “les amis et commerçants Mouffetard” — the friends and shopkeepers of the rue Mouffetard — decorated with a flower and a microphone, that names him. The tribute comes from the neighbourhood, not from the profession.
