The answer
Sculpted by Adolphe Wansart in 1946, this recumbent effigy holds his wife's face in his hands, as if gazing at her for eternity. An inscription accompanies the monument: “Ils furent émerveillés du beau voyage qui les mena jusqu'au bout de la vie” (“They marvelled at the beautiful journey that carried them to the end of life”).
