Vincenzo Bellini died in 1835 near Paris. His remains stayed at Père-Lachaise until 1876, when Catania, his native city in Sicily, secured their repatriation. The Parisian monument, in Division 11, is now a cenotaph: a marble plaque there records the city's gesture of gratitude towards France.
